Wonder Woman 2 villain, Cheetah, could be played by Kristen Wiig

According to a report by Deadline, Kristen Wiig is in talks with Warner Bros and DC to take on her first role as a villainess in Wonder Woman 2, playing the Amazon's arch-nemesis, Cheetah.

Patty Jenkins is returning to direct the sequel to 2017's 'Wonder Woman' after it grossed over $821 million to become the tenth-highest grossing film of the year, with Gal Gadot reprising her role as the female superhero.

While the first film was set during World War I, the second instalment is reported to be skipping the events of World War II and will be set in the Cold War era, during the 1980s.

Cheetah is one of Wonder Woman's vilest foes, the Joker to her Batman if you will, and she has been given a variety of origin stories and abilities across DC comic book history. The version of Cheetah that Kristen Wiig is likely to be playing will most likely be based on archeologist Barbara Anne Minerva.

Minerva was inspired by Wonder Woman to search for other gods and meets Urzkartaga, a god who alters her form and gifts her with heightened senses, incredible speed, superhuman strength, and sharp claws and teeth, turning her into an uncontrollably bloodthirsty, cannibalistic creature who grows to loathe both herself and the woman she believes led her down this path.

Despite talks with Wiig to play what will most likely be Minerva's version of Cheetah being tentative at the most, fans have already envisioned what it look like if Wiig took on the major role in the sequel. A Twitter artist, BossLogic, shared a digitally altered version of the actress's picture, giving her a digital makeover to see what she would look like as the villainess.

Though Wiiig is most commonly associated with her comedic roles on 'Saturday Night Live', 'Ghostbusters,' and 'Bridesmaids,' she has also taken on more serious roles in films like 'The Skeleton Twins,' 'The Martian,' and 'Mother!' Her latest work is Richard Linklater's upcoming comedy-drama film, 'Where'd You Go, Bernadette,' scheduled for release in October later this year.

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman 2 is slated for a November 2019 release, and is still in the stages of finding cast members, with Emma Stone previously having been reported to be in talks to play Cheetah, before said talks fell through. If indeed the rumors are true, then this will be a first for Wiig, though she has already demonstrated the versatility of her acting chops in her diverse film and television career.
