The trailer of Quentin Tarantino's ninth film, 'Once Upon a Time In Hollywood,' dropped Wednesday and fans have since gone gaga over every detail in the minute and a half video. From the sets of 'Django Unchained' being used, to the plot that is kept under wraps, fans cannot wait for their favorite director's film.
However, not all of them were satisfied with the posters and the trailer and they have shown their opinions regarding the same through memes on social media. Starring Leonardo Di Caprio as Ricky Dalton and Brad Pitt as Ricky Dalton's double, the film is set in 1969, the time when the Manson Family planned and executed the murder of actress Sharon Tate played by Margot Robbie.
The trailer starts with an interview of Dalton and his double, Cliff Booth, where an interviewer questions Dalton about the role his double plays in the films. He responds, "Actors are required to do a lot of dangerous stuff, Cliff (Pitt) here is meant to carry the load." When Cliff is asked if he agrees, he responds, "What carrying his load, yeah it's about right" as the two look at each other with a grin on their faces in the black and white video. This is their equation in the film.
The trailer also harks back to the signature elements of the 60s - the retro music, the almost empty streets of Hollywood, the outfits, the hippies and especially Cliff's hairstyle in some of the scenes. There are a lot of things going on in the trailer, but what is most interesting is the fact that Tarantino has not given away too much about the film, as is expected of him.
For instance, what was that about a kid calling Dalton's experience one of the best that she had seen and he even tears up after hearing the compliment? Is it because the washed-up actor is hearing it after a long time? While Dalton and Booth's story arc is fictional, what is not is the backdrop of the film - the Manson Family murders. How will Tarantino tie it all together? Also, conspicuously absent from the trailer is Al Pacino, who plays the role of Dalton's agent in the film.
Fans are, however, reacting to the details of the sets featured in the trailer, specifically, a scene where the background is the same as the one used in Django Unchained's Sheriff and Marshal scene. YouTube user Moises AldersFlügel wrote, "They are sitting in the django unchained set."
'Once Upon a Time In Hollywood' is slated to release in July, and reports also suggest the film might premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The movie also stars Mike Moh as Bruce Lee, Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen, Damon Herriman as Charles Manson, Dakota Fanning as Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme - a member of the Manson family - and late actor Luke Perry as Wayne Maunder among others.
