Fans of the epic all-woman warrior tribe Dora Milaje are in for an amazing surprise.
Nnedi Okorafo, notable award-winning science-fiction, and fantasy author, is bringing fans a new 'Wakanda Forever' story. The comic is set to pair the Wakandan warriors with the likes of superheroes such as Spider-Man, The Avenger, The X-Men and a huge possibility of many others.
The three-part comic book is set to introduce the all-woman team to the rest of the Marvel universe. It will take the Dora Milaje outside Wakanda whenever there is a threat. The three stand-alone issues are titled 'Wakanda Forever: Amazing Spider-Man', 'Wakanda Forever: X-Men' and 'Wakanda Forever: Avengers'.
Nnedi Okorafo is pumped up about working on this amazing endeavor. “I’m super excited about writing this storyline. Powerful disciplined African women with futuristic spears who faced their shortcomings and changed a nation? Oh heck yeah, I’m so there,” the author told Vogue “Fans of the Dora Milaje can look forward to seeing them out in the world beyond T’Challa and the Wakandan throne’s shadow. They’ll get to see the Dora Milaje come into their own while teaming up with the unexpected.”
More than anything, Okorafo is excited to portray the Dora Milaje as an independent unit of heroines. “Typically when you see them, they’re with T’Challa, representing and protecting him,” she said. “Now you’re going to see the Dora Miljae for the first time as an independent entity; they’re not under the shadow of the throne.”
The huge success of 'Black Panther' is still spilling over from its February release date. The movie made waves across the globe and showed a side of superheroes we can all relate to. This endeavor would be the perfect testing ground for Marvel to see if there is an achievable storyline with the Dora Milaje in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
'Wakanda Forever: Amazing Spider-Man No. 1' will be released digitally and in comic book stores on June 27.
