There seems to be a hidden message on Princess Diana's wedding shoes that she wore while marrying Prince Charles

Last year, many of Princess Diana's friends and family decided to share some of their fondest memories of her in tribute to her memory. One of the designers, who designed her wedding dress and shoes which she wore while marrying Prince Charles in the year 1981, revealed a secret about her.

At the time of the wedding, Princess Diana's shoes remained unseen and mostly hidden throughout the entire ceremony. The shoes remained under her Elizabeth and David Emmanuel wedding gown which at the time, was labeled as the dress of the century. However, the shoes she wore are believed to be extremely special.

The shoes were created by a celebrity cobbler, Clive Shilton, who spoke to the DailyMail and said, "Her main concern was that she wouldn't appear taller than Prince Charles, and because she was very tall – 5'10" – the shoes would have to have a low heel. She was a very shy, sweet, smiley-eyed young girl," he continued.

The shoes were bedazzled with approximately 542 sequins as well as over a 100 pure pearls. For the top of the shoe, Princess Diana chose to have an elegant heart-shaped pattern. The shoes were made of suede and the princess had the letters 'C' and 'D' painted under the heel.

It is believed that the pair of shoes took a total of six months to make. Shilton continued,  "No one even saw the bottom of the shoes, but it was important to us that they looked fantastic. You would have seen much more of them if she'd tripped!"Clive remains extremely secretive about the princesses shoe size.

Shilton went to the extent of making his own wooden mold for the shoe and refused to let that be outsourced. Shilton never ever got to see the actual wedding dress though the Emmanuels did send him a sample of the silk that they were using in the hope that he would produce shoes of the same material.

"It was too fine — it would have crumpled across the instep. Instead, the weavers came up with a heavier silk satin." The shoe was so detailed and difficult to produce that it required every single person in Clive's workshop to help out somehow whether it was putting a tack or spot of glue.

Shilton also refuses to give the cost or price of the shoe and the amount of money that Princess Diana paid to him. However, he admits that he charged her a basic price and refused to say much more.

According to press reports that were published at the time, say that there was a dispute over the original bill and Princess Diana's mother,  Frances Shand Kydd, allegedly refused to pay. In the year 2011, Clive went on to sell one of the spare pairs for a whopping £36,000.

When the day of the wedding dress commission was announced Elizabeth Emmanuel called up Shilton who was known for his high fashion handmade shoes and handbags, to come and meet a special client. Shilton was based in Covent Garden at the time and made a quick trip to Brook Street where Princess Diana was waiting to have her feet measured.
