Wendy Williams is going to take a break from work for three weeks. The talk show host revealed to viewers on Tuesday, that her doctor advised her to go on a three-week leave due to thyroid issues.
Wendy said, "My doctor has prescribed — are you ready? — as of today, three weeks of vacation. What? Who are you? I was pissed."
The 53-year-old said she was diagnosed with Graves Disease, an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid. Symptoms of the disease include anxiety, bulging eyes, chest pain, elevated blood pressure, fatigue, unexplained weight loss, and increased sweating. Several patients experience far more severe symptoms.
Wendy said on her talk show that Graves Disease "squeezes the muscles behind the eyeballs" and thanked the audience for spotting her eye problem much before she did. Wendy added the symptoms were aggravated by stress that stemmed from being pre-occupied with her son Kevin‘s senior year of high school and college applications. Amid this, she also dealt with the pressures of work.
However, the talk show host said she'd be back in two weeks because she is a working-class woman and someone has to pay the bills. In the same breath, she asked several of her female guests to focus on their health.
"What I want to say to women, more than men, is stop putting everyone first because if we’re not good, they’re not good," Wendy said. Her announcement was made just a week after she took three days off from experiencing flu-like symptoms.
She wrote in an Instagram post last week that she had to be talked into scheduling an appointment with a doctor and take a few days off from work. "I feel awful," she wrote.
Wendy's health has been a cause of concern for many of her fans after she fainted last year during a Halloween special. She later said that she couldn't breathe in her Statue of Liberty costume but now, her health scare seems to be much more serious.
