Fashion designer and actress Eva Mendes knows how to pick her battles. The 44-year-old mom to two adorable kids, Esmeralda and Amada, says she doesn't fuss about what her daughters want to wear. They could be in their pyjamas all day and she believes this is their right. However, Eva, like most mothers struggles to get them to eat the right food.
Eva said in an interview with E! that she's currently in a battle to get them to eat broccoli. "I'm trying to get them to eat broccoli. That's the one I want to win. They can wear whatever they want," she opened up in a recent interview. On the surface, it may seem like Eva can afford plenty of help for her children while she creates beautiful pieces of clothing for her brand, New York & Co. However, she has the same problems that working moms have. In a separate interview with E!, Eva, who shares her beautiful daughters with actor Ryan Gosling, confessed that she was not aware of the amount of guilt she felt when she decided to go back to work.
"Oh my God, nobody warns you about the guilt that you feel when you do work!" she said in the interview.
The actress admitted that she had no idea about how she managed to work everything out in her life. "I don't know how I find a balance because I think it is like a day to day kind of struggle, you know?"
One could say that Eva has her hands quite full with creating her collection for New York & Co., taking care of herself and her family with daughters Esmeralda, 3, and Amada, 1.
According to Eva, it is important for one to care about themselves if they want to take care of others in the same way. However, she is uncertain if the feeling of guilt will ever go away. "I'm all for obviously taking care of myself—that's how I can take care of them of course," she said.
"But that guilt that is just kind of always there. It's like, 'Ugh, this is gonna be there forever now.'"
For Eva, her experience with motherhood has been new and in many ways, she's still learning about it. Sometimes, she is overcome by stress as she feels the pressure to represent her kids whenever she goes out. Nevertheless, she doesn't let this pressure trickle down to her kids. Unlike celebrities who dress up their kids in the finest designer wear, Eva wants her daughters to enjoy their childhood.
"Literally, you wanna wear jammies all day? Wear jammies all day. Like, to me, it is such a beautiful time to be a kid and not have, you know, no pressure," she said. Eva also dished that her daughters are both different and alike. They are pretty opposite. They are both angels, they are just different kinds of angels," she said.
Even though one would say that Eva has stepped away from red carpet and a bit of acting for a while now, she does not seem to regret it. She has often spoken about how she would love to just spend the entire day at home with her kids rather than go out and dress for a red carpet.
