DJ Khaled records a heartfelt open letter for his son Asahd

Khaled plans to release his new album in the summer, but has not detailed the full tracklist yet

DJ Khaled has finally decided to explain his reasons behind calling his new album Father of Asahd. In an open video-letter on YouTube, the rapper explained his reasons for the eclectic choice of name for his new upcoming album.

"Bless up," Khaled begins the video-letter, as a montage of Asahd home videos plays in the background. "I have an important message for you. It's a message about the master key of master keys. I'm talking about love."

In the video, the hip-hop producer spoke about how Asahd, his son and recent executive producer, changed his outlook on life, and in the process, his career.

"Love turns bad to good, dark to light, losing to winning," the producer says over shots of the father-son pair vacationing, playing at home, swimming and chatting on the red carpet with Ryan Seacrest. "Love can change everything. It's changed me."

Khaled goes on to acknowledge that his parents taught him many of the things he knows today, like how to hustle, how to be a good person, etc., but says that it is his son who has really taught him how to love. "Every morning I tell Asahd I love you, I got you," he says. "But the truth is he got me. He’s what gives me hope and purpose. He’s my inspiration and motivation. When Asahd smiles at me, it’s god smiling at me. Love did that."

But perhaps the most touching part of the video is when Khaled revealed why he decided to name his album Father of Asahd.

Khaled said in the video, "My whole life I thought our parents gave us our names. Mine called me Khaled. But here's a major key: our children give us the ultimate name, the greatest title, the highest honor. My son has given me my new name: Father of Asahd."

Khaled plans to release Father of Asahd this summer. He has already issued the LP's lead single, "Top Off" that features Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Future, which debuted at Number One on iTunes on March 1st.

DJ Khaled is yet to detail the album's full tracklist, which is quite likely to be stacked with heavy-hitters. He even hinted to Rolling Stone in a recent interview that Kendrick Lamar could make an appearance.
