So...Who Shot Biggie and Tupac? A new FOX TV show tries to solve conspiracy theories surrounding their deaths

There are some murders that confound us even today. For instance, who really killed Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G, aka Biggie Smalls, in 1996? It's been more than 20 years and we're nowhere close to finding answers. So when FOX aired its new investigative special, Who Shot Biggie & Tupac?, on Sunday, September 24, we were naturally curious to know the truth.

The two-hour special, hosted by rapper Ice-T and broadcast journalist Soledad O'Brien, offered information about the rivalry between Tupac and other gangs, the involvement of officials in the case and a conspiracy theory that doesn't seem to die: Is Tupac still alive?

Well, here's what we found. Tupac's death was most definitely a result of gang rivalry. Hours before he was shot on September 7, 1996, at a drive-by in Las Vegas, the All Eyez On Me singer was involved in a physical fight with a rival gang member, Orlando Anderson at the MGM Grand Casino lobby. Later, he was shot six times by a man sitting in a white Cadillac. He is largely suspected to be Anderson.

Cops Tim Brennan and Robert Ladd told Ice-T and O'Brien that Anderson bragged about killing Tupac to his friends. "They had all these other theories going on, but it was a really simple gang one-on-one to Tim and me," Ladd said.

Six months after Tupac's death, his music rival and former friend, Biggie was shot in the same manner as well. Biggie's wife Faith Evans said at the time of his death that Biggie feared for his life after Tupac was killed.

"I think it would be some element of fear that would kind of run through his mind, given the fact that his name was involved in a lot of the situations involving Tupac before his murder," she said. Although the police didn't zero in on B.I.G's death, there have been many conspiracy theories about how they died and who killed them.

Here's a list of people who are in some way or the other, believed to be connected to the murders and the theories attached to both the murders.

Suge Knight

Many believe that Knight, who was in the driver's seat the night Tupac died, has something to do with at least one of their deaths. Fans believe that Knight could have killed Tupac in order to stop him from changing labels. There's another conspiracy theory which argues that Knight could have killed Biggie as revenge for Tupac's death. Interestingly, Knight believes that Tupac is still alive.

Russell Poole

LAPD officer Russell Poole said Knight and his crew at Death Row Records had a connection to Biggie's death. He accused other LAPD officers of tying up with Death Row Records while investigating Biggie's death. He was later ordered to stop his investigation and retired in 1999.

Puff Daddy

Many believe that P. Diddy had a hand in killing Biggie so that his new album, ironically titled, Life After Death, could drive sales. Diddy was competing with West Coast Rappers and Tupac's label, Death Row Records at the time. He wanted his own label, Bad Boy Records, to do well and this may have resulted in him killing B.I.G, as the rumor goes.

This is one of the most bizarre theories but people believe that the FBI could be responsible for both their deaths. Reason? Well, the law enforcement officials wanted to end a violent feud between the East Coast and the West Coast rappers.
