Country singer Alan Jackson and his family have sought support and prayers from fans after the singer's son-in-law passed away after suffering head injuries in an accident on a boat dock. In a post shared on his website on Thursday, the 59-year-old crooner shared the deeply tragic news of his son-in-law Ben Selecman's passing, before asking his loyal fan-following for "prayers during this difficult time".

"Samuel Benton 'Ben' Selecman – husband of Mattie Jackson Selecman and son-in-law of country artist Alan Jackson – died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 12, in West Palm Beach, Florida," the post began, "Selecman, a Nashville resident, had recently suffered severe traumatic head injuries in a fall. He was 28 years old."

As it turns out, Selecman, who tied the knot with Alan's oldest daughter Mattie in October, had met with a tragic accident while trying to help a woman on a boat dock in Jupiter, Florida, on Wednesday. In the process of providing aid to the woman, Selecman unfortunately slipped and hit his head, suffering fatal head injuries.

"Selecman was an East Tennessee (Knoxville) native and University of Tennessee Knoxville graduate. He earned his law degree at the University of Memphis Cecil C Humphreys School of Law and was employed as an Assistant DA by the Nashville-Davidson County District Attorney’s Office," Alan's web-post read. "In addition to his wife, Selecman is survived by parents Mark and Brenda Selecman, brother Cole Selecman and his wife, Morgan."

"The Jackson and Selecman families ask for – and appreciate – prayers during this difficult time."

The sad news of Selecman's passing was also announced by office of the District Attorney General of Nashville Davidson County who went on to honor the late Assistant DA.

"District Attorney Glen Funk said the DA’s Office is thankful for every day that Ben had the opportunity to serve the people of Davidson Country. Our prayers are with Ben’s family. He will truly be missed," they said in a statement.

It would have been Selecman and Mattie's first anniversary in October. Speaking about their relationship, the daughter of the country star had previously told Southern Bride about how they first met in Nashville.

“Ben will tell you we first met at a mutual friends’ wedding, but I just remember dancing with a cute guy and never thinking about him after,” she shared. “We reconnected two years later while he spent a summer clerking for a judge in Nashville during law school. He asked me out and I said no, but he didn’t give up.”

She added, “He pursued me until I finally saw the handsome, outgoing, Godly guy I needed. After deciding we were meant for forever, he took me on a picnic on the Old Historic Natchez Trace, where we enjoyed incredible wine, cheese, dancing, and the most romantic proposal."
