'America's Got Talent' season 14 semifinals: Luke Islam's elimination right after stunning 'Never Enough' leaves fans devastated
'America's Got Talent' season 14 returned on Tuesday night for the second of the two semifinals, and it was a sad evening for the fans of Golden Buzzer winner, Luke Islam, after the singer failed to make it to the grand finale.
AGT aired live on Tuesday night, with a one-hour episode revealing the results of the five contestants who made it all the way to the finale. There were 11 acts who performed for the judges. But only five made it to the grand finale. Three of the acts that received the highest fan votes were sent directly to the finale. The fourth act that with the highest vote from the Dunkin Save made it to the finale and the fifth act was selected by the judges.
The five acts that made it through were, V.Unbeatable, Detroit Youth Choir, Voices of Service, Ryan Niemiller and Emanne Beasha. The acts that were eliminated included Lukas & Falco, Marcin Patrzalek, Luke Islam, Dom Chambers, Alex Dowis and Chris Klafford.
Though few fans were happy with the results, most were disappointed that Julianne Hough's Golden Buzzer winner, Luke didn't make it to the finals. He was eliminated after he received lower votes than Voices of Service. He was no doubt a fan favorite and it came as a surprise to many that the 13-year-old will not be moving to the finale. His final performance on the AGT stage was during the semifinals where he performed 'Never Enough' from the movie 'The Greatest Showman'. Once he was done with his performance, the judges - Simon Cowell, Julianne Hough, Howie Mandel, and Gabrielle Union - and guest judge Queen Latifah jumped up from their seats and gave Luke a standing ovation.
He also received positive comments from the judges, especially Hough who said, "You know what, Luke? You were a voice for all of those people that have felt like they have never been enough. Thank you for articulating that. You are beautiful. You are more than enough. And I cannot wait to see you in the Finals because you’ve got to vote, vote, vote.”
Taking to Twitter after AGT aired, a fan wrote, "Y’all, the fact that Luke Islam didn’t go through to the final is a joke to me. He had a shot to win this thing. I’m so disappointed in America’s voting, what the heck?!"
Adding to that another fan said, "#AGT you people are so wrong!!! Unbelievable!!! I cannot believe AGT dismisses our great talent Luke Islam, You are the best God Bless you." While another fan wrote, "Can’t believe Luke Islam didn’t go to the finals but DYC did. They’re good and all, but youth choirs are a dime a dozen. Luke is the best 13-year-old singer I’ve ever heard. How he didn’t finish in at least the top 6 is insane to me. Oh well. #agt."
"@AGT is not #TheVoice or #Idol. Why are most of the acts moving on to the final either singers or choirs? (And one of the most talented singers, Luke Islam, didn't even make it!) America, stop voting off all the great variety acts that make #AGT unique! #AGTResults," said another fan.
'America's Got Talent' season 14 will return next Tuesday and Wednesday night for its grand finale only on NBC. Check your local listings for more information.
