'American Rust' Episode 1 Fan Review: Twitter verdict says 'Solid first eppy'

There was quite some buzz on Twitter as the show made its debut after a scintillating episode of 'Billions'

Despite mixed reviews from most entertainment sites, fans on Twitter gave a thumbs up to Showtime's 'American Rust', the cop drama set in a fictional town, Buell in Pennsylvania starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney. The crime drama is a whodunnit murder story. Daniels plays police chief Del Harris who is tasked with the investigation but realizes he can't stay neutral when the son of the woman he loves becomes the key suspect.

Twitterati felt the season was off to a solid start. "Solid first eppy #AmericanRust" read one of the comments. The other reactions read: "Critics are generally out of touch with a massive swath of America. Hope you watched despite that reception. #AmericanRust". This was seconded by another who said, "Just watched American Rust on Showtime, and holy hell, this show is gonna be so good. Amazing cast, with Maura Tierney and Jeff Daniels as the leads. Dark, but so well done."

The acting chops of the main cast were one of the key reasons to tune in for one of the fans. "Really looking forward to @Showtime's new series #AmericanRust Jeff Daniels, is one of the world's greatest living actors, plus Maura Tierney?? Forget about it dude, lets do this!!" the tweet read. The comparisons to Kane Winslet's 'Mare of Easttown' were not far away. "I’m thinking American Rust is the poor man’s Mare of Eastown that wedding scene hard to watch", while another said: "#AmericanRust feels like Mare of Easttown, but without the charisma of Kate Winslet I want Mare Sheehan back"
