With barely a week left, American Idol' is all set to premiere on ABC on March 3. The reality TV competition series, however, has had to deal with a fair share of cancellations to be 16 seasons old. With a spurt in talent shows on television, its audience has become fragmented leading to low viewer ratings which saw the show being canceled in 2015 after it first premiered on FOX in 2002. ABC is giving it new wind for its sails as it picked up the show in 2018. The ratings have not been something to boast about but with this new season, the makers are looking for a fresh start on March 3 with season 17.

As part of the marketing blitz, the show makers are trying to reel in audiences by releasing snippets and teasers from the show. While the outcome of this strategy is yet to be completely known, social media is already abuzz with talks about the contestants, the show's format and fans' likes and dislikes. Fans have in fact suggested to the makers what they would like to see different this time on the show apart from the usual sob stories.
