Amber Alert issued for North Carolina boy, 2, abducted by man who earlier stabbed his mother
DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA: Authorities in North Carolina have issued an Amber Alert for a two-year-old who is missing and who they fear has been abducted.
The Durham Police Department announced it was looking for Jeremy Rivas-Munoz, a two-year-old Hispanic male who is approximately 2 feet-10 inches tall, weighing 35 pounds, and who went missing on April 9.
Jeremy has black hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and black shorts.
In a press release, authorities said they believe that Jeremy was abducted by one Emerson Melendez Rivas, a 22-year-old man who allegedly stabbed the toddler's mother overnight at their home before leaving with him.
The incident came to light after deputies from the DPD responded to a domestic call to Jeremy's home on the 3200 Block of Myra street at around 1.30 am, according to WRAL.
When they reached the scene, they found the boy's mother bleeding from a stab wound and transported her to Duke Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Her condition is unclear.
They described Rivas as a Hispanic male who is 5-feet-10 inches tall weighing 170 pounds and who has a skull tattoo on his neck and rose tattoo on his left hand. They said he was last seen driving a sedan — a blue Toyota Corolla.
It is currently unknown where he may have headed with the boy, and officers said the 22-year-old is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information regarding either Rivas or the missing two-year-old boy has been advised to call the Durham Police Department immediately at (919) 475-2263, or call 911 or *HP.
They can also contact Investigator David Vereen at (919) 560-4440 or call CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200, the latter of which allows for callers to remain anonymous and will pay cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases.
Many on Facebook expressed their hope that the young boy would be found safe and sound and can take some solace from the case of Khaliyah Alvarez Caro, a three-month-old girl who was found safe after she was reportedly abducted.
Police said that her biological parents, Gabriel Brandon Caro, 19, and Jasmine Angelica Alvarez, 21, who do not have legal custody of the child, had kidnapped Khaliyah.
She had been with her grandparents because of their drug use, history of domestic violence and homelessness, and was snatched after they made their way into the apartment through a basement window and “grabbed” the infant.
