AMAs 2019: Halsey wins best Pop/Rock song, slams other award shows for not being 'what they seem at all'
Halsey won her first American Music Award for 'Without Me' under the category Pop/Rock song on Sunday night. Accepting the award, she slammed the other award shows for not being what they seem at all.
The 2019 American Music Awards is going on full swing at the Microsoft Theatre LA. Halsey was nominated under two categories. One for the Pop/Rock Song and the other for Artist of The Year. She won her first AMA award for 'Without Me'.
Accepting the award, she shared how thankful she is for the AMA's. But apart from that, she shaded the other award shows revealing that while she was a kid she wanted their validation, but as she grew up and became an artist she got to know they are not what they seem at all.
"I grew up watching shows like this and I would sit at home wide-eyed and watch artists in these beautiful gowns and handsome suits stroll up and hold up these awards. They were usually gold-plated and shiny and weighted these metaphors, right? These trophies that were supposed to be some kind of validation for the soul-crushing and heartache-inducing work of bringing a song to life I really believed that fairy tale."
"I believed these awards when I was a kid. I used to believe this award was the ultimate validation and I would come up here and laugh and cry and my fans at home would rejoice but the truth is I am older now and I'm also an artist. And apparently I'm doing ok. But most of these awards really aren't what they seem at all. But that's okay because I'm up here right now and I'm so thankful to the AMAs. Because they are the world's largest fan-voted awards show. And I'm thankful to the fans because they're the people who really give a sh**. And I'm thankful to the AMAs for giving those people a voice. I'm going to keep making music for them and for us," Halsey added.
Taking to social media after Halsey's award, fans congratulated her and shared that they stand with her speech. "Halsey is that bi**h! #inspiration #AMAs #AMAsTNT," a fan wrote.
"Halsey threw mad shade at the Grammys and left her eyebrows home #AMAs #AmericanMusicAwards," added another fan. While another said, "y'all the #AMAs having me screaming. so happy for everybody and the performances have been so amazing so far. and halsey's speech was astonishing. love her sm."
