AMAs 2020: Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes win hearts with 'Monster', but fans want Britney Spears to sing 'Lonely'

Fans were so enamored to see Bieber perform on stage that they couldn't help showering him with praise, in fact, one fan even hoped Britney Spears could do a version of his song 'Lonely'

Even though the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has disrupted daily life, a bit of entertainment wouldn't hurt, especially in such trying times. With an interesting line-up of performances by some of music's biggest artists, the 2020 American Music Awards created all the right buzz much before its premiere tonight, November 22. 

However, due to the Covid-19 induced restrictions, the event will have very few members in the audience and the crew members are required to socially distance from one another. Meanwhile, the dancers are required to have facial masks on during the performances while the artists will have a PPE on when not on the stage. While the majority of the artists performed from the main event location, BTS will entertain their fans live from London. 

The event which is currently being held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles is being graced by performances by Billie Eilish, BTS, Jennifer Lopez, Malum, Katy Perry and many others. 

A joint performance by Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes was undeniably the highlight of the year's biggest music event as the music trio took to the stage to perform to their hit numbers including 'Holy', 'Lonely', 'Monster', and 'Wonder'. Then night couldn't have started off on a better note as Bieber took to the stage for the world premiere of 'Lonely', followed by 'Holy'. 

Fans soon took to Twitter to praise Bieber for his powerful opening performance. One fan wrote, "#AMAs I’ve never been a #JustinBieber fan, but that opening performance he just did got me in my FEELINGS!!! What a beautiful, honest, eye-opening performance!!! Respect! Perfection" While another added, "So proud of you... U were on fire @justinbieber". Another wrote, " @justinbiebe is opening the #AMAs  Starting with his song Lonely, and after that one he is performing Holy. Both of his performances sound great live & definitely a great stage presence. Justin, you’re doing so well! Stay happy & healthy." Another viewer wrote: "I’m really liking this collaboration! Two very talented young men, showing their vulnerability in such a public way. Great job, guys!"

Meanwhile, one of them noted that Britney Spears needs to do her version of Bieber's 'Lonely. The tweet read, "I need @britneyspear to do her version of @justinbieber ’s #Lonely #AMAs2020 #AMAs". Another emotional fan tweeted, "I felt so much emotion on Justin's performance, the Lonely speaks for itself and the performance enhance everything, incredible"
