If you've followed 'All American' religiously, you may be waiting to catch the third season. Don't worry, The CW's soapy football drama based on the true-life story of  Spencer Paysinger, a retired professional football player signed by the New York Giants, will be back soon!

Considered a crossover of 'Friday Night Lights,' and 'The OC', the show is an inspiring, ensemble family drama that revolves around Spencer James and the two families whose homes he shares after transferring from Crenshaw to Beverly High. Are you all set to watch the brand new season? Here's all you need to know about it.

Release date

All American' Season 3 is all set to return to The CW. In an exclusive interview with MEAWW, actor Da'Vinchi who plays the role of Darnell Hayes confirmed the renewal and said, "I think it's probably gonna be out sometime in October." However, actress Karimah Westbrook broke the news saying the show will return in January 2021.

Going by the normal schedule, the series would have returned this fall but the pandemic has delayed the release date and postponed it to 2021 and it is scheduled to premiere on January 18, 2021. The CW announced the estimated schedule for its fall shows and the series is slated for the 8 pm to 9 pm time slot on Mondays. Going by the previous seasons, this one should also come with 16 episodes.

Plot

The first season biographed Spencer's journey from South LA to Beverly Hills as he is trained by Coach Baker. Towards the end of the season, Spencer was deemed unbeatable on the football field. And with the support of his family, he navigated through major life difficulties, standing victorious over his enemies.

In the second season, Spencer struggled to choose between his two 'homes' when he found out his mother had an affair with Coach Baker and his father Corey has returned. Moreover, towards the end of the season, he dealt with his father's untimely death and even quit football for a short duration. The series delved deep into teenage troubles and put the spotlight on major social issues such as racism, sexism, gun violence, and mental health awareness.

The summary of the third season reads, "It’s been a long journey in just a short period of time for gifted high school football star Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), from his days as the breakout player at South Crenshaw High to becoming state champion with Beverly Hills High. His family life, personal relationships and athletic future all changed and grown in ways he never imagined."

"But after the rough year that followed that victory, Spencer made the tough decision to return to South Crenshaw High for his senior year with Billy Baker (Taye Diggs) by his side as the new head coach. Together, their plan is to bring home a football championship to save the school. However, in season three that may prove difficult as the high stakes of the Beverly/Crenshaw rivalry become very personal now that it’s friend versus friend and father versus son."

"Furthermore, the medical mystery surrounding Spencer’s injured arm will not only significantly affect his game on the field, but also his relationships off the field, as they all try to navigate a very complicated, secret-filled senior year at both Beverly and South Crenshaw."
