'Alice' Episode 8 reveals that Jin-gyeom's death is not too far away, will Tae-yi be able to save him?

'Alice' Episode 8 begins in the past when Jin-gyeom (Joo Won) had to move out of the house that he and his mother Park Sun-young (Kim Hee-seon) had to live together in. The day when Jin-gyeom had promised to his late mother that he will definitely return to their home one day. Just as he had promised, Jin-gyeom did return, and he came back with Tae-yi, the professor who has promised to help him out and members of Alice for the time travelers that they are. Jin-gyeom has decided to guard Tae-yi against any danger that might befall on her because people from the future believe that she has not only seen the Book of Prophecy but might also be the one to stop the door that lets time travelers from the past come back and forth as they please.

Once Tae-yi is brought over to Jin-gyeom's old house, the two of them try to figure out who the assailant is and if he is from the present or the future through the only evidence that they have in hand. Tae-yi begins to look into the formula that the man who had attempted to kill her had left in her home and had written on the board in the university the second time he had attacked. At that point in time, she figures out that the formula has a mathematician's signature that she had initially not noticed and upon further investigation, she also finds out the researcher who the signature belongs to.

What is interesting about this entire incident though, is Detective Ko's involvement. Who is he and why did he abduct researcher Oh-won? In the previous episode, he had read through the Book of Prophecy, excluding the last page of the book that was hidden by a physicist in the past. In this episode, he intentionally hid leads that would have led to the researcher before Tae-yi had even found a clue. So far, we have no idea why Detective Ko would do something as horrific as this. Especially towards the end of the episode, it becomes clear that Detective Ko might not be the good man that he has portrayed himself to be so far.

Tae-yi, in the meantime, is targeted again. This time is, however, a lot more serious than before because this time, Tae-yi ends up traveling through time by mistake and ends up in 2021. When she does end up in 2021, she learns that Jin-gyeom was killed a year before and that the killer of the crime is yet to be found. Tae-yi is shocked to learn this, because, for her, she had just met him that afternoon before that crazy man from the future had attacked her. Then, we are swiftly taken to October 2020, when we see Detective Ko throwing a bloody knife away, and Jin-gyeom is on the floor unconscious with a stab wound. Did Detective Ko really hurt Jin-gyeom or was he just at the scene? We also see Tae-yi in tears as she tries to wake Jin-gyeom up. Does this mean Tae-yi will successfully manage to find her way back into her present? The rules of time traveling are still not clear within the realm of Alice and the more we progress, the more complicated the turn of events has got.

'Alice' airs on SBS on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 pm KST and can be streamed on Viki Global.
