After producing a hit like 'Selling Sunset' and then another show 'Say I Do' which debuted last year on Netflix, the streaming giant has created yet another show that can easily be categorized as a feel-good series. Called 'Marriage or Mortgage' this new show is touted as what one would get if they merged the concepts of the other two shows mentioned. Real estate agent Nichole Holmes and wedding planner Sarah Miller offer their services to ten Nashville couples that feature on the ten-episode Season 1 of the series. In the end, it's the couple who decides what is best for them and what should be the best use of their budget.
Same-sex couple Whitney Christian and Alex Morgan feature on an episode titled 'Nurses in Love'. The two had dated for two years and had become engaged right before they started filming for the show. While a home was important for them, a wedding too featured on the top of their priority list as they just wanted to show the world how much their love for each other mattered to them and it was something that they wanted to celebrate in a big way. Alex short for Alexandra and Whitney are emergency room trauma nurses working at Tristar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Both of them met at work and have been together since then. In the episode, they mentioned that they both have similar personalities, both of them are extremely relaxed. That is one of the reasons why there have been absolutely no fights in their relationship which also made them realize that they're meant to be with each other forever.
Alex and Whitney took turns proposing marriage to each other. The former had booked a cabin in the woods with a glass exterior against which she placed a letter marquee sign that read "Marry Me". Whitney created a cabana out of some toilet paper, placed some pillows inside it along with a bonfire and that's where she popped the question to her. Alex and Whitney are parents to a very docile house cat named Georgie and they both wish to carry a child and add at least two human babies to their existing family of three. To realize their dream of a family, a house was what they needed but a wedding too was of utmost importance to them.
Their budget for a wedding and the downpayment of the home was $25K and the overall money they'd decided to spend on buying the house was between $320K-$400K. They wanted an open floor plan for the house, clean sightlines, a bath was a necessity for Alex because they had a ritual which they followed in their existing house where Whitney and Georgie would sit nearby the tub and they'd all hang out together. Also, they needed someplace where they could just move in with their bags. For the wedding, they wanted complementing dresses, a photographer who they could connect with and who matched their vibe. The photographer who shot their engagement was great but too pushy for Alex's liking and they had very specific needs when it came to who they wanted for their wedding. The brides also needed an altar that would frame them well and that pretty much summed up their needs for both the house and a wedding.
Why did Alex and Whitney choose a wedding?
Alex and Whitney looked at three houses with Nichole. The first one wasn't as per their tastes, the second one was everything they wanted but there were a lot of dogs surrounding the house and they weren't sure if it would be a safe bet to invest in the house, the third house was new construction and ticked all the boxes for them and they were gravitating more towards choosing a home over a wedding. However, everything changed when Sarah took them out to pick out their wedding dresses, and seeing each other in their dream dresses was a surreal experience for them. Later on, Sarah told them that they'd be getting the dresses at half the price and the store even agreed to give them a veil.
Secondly, Sarah had also created a ring-shaped floral altar for them which helped them visualize how their wedding day would look like and the fact that they were getting all of it for a price much lower than their budget was what made choosing a wedding much easier for them. The couple got married on February 29, 2020.
