Teen accused of Alesha MacPhail's rape and murder stripped of anonymity by judge, had a history of abusive behavior
Alesha MacPhail loved her mother, Georgina Lochrane, and even though they lived in a dreary estate in Airdrie, which is 12 miles to the east of Glasgow, the neighbors in the area clearly remember an excited child with a playful giggle. The streets were too risky to play on, however, so any outdoor games had to be played in the fenced-off patch of grass that surrounded the apartment block she lived in.
On the Isle of Bute, where she stayed with her father Rab on alternate weekends and school holidays, the 6-year-old didn't have any danger to worry about. At least, that's what her mother thought.
Twenty three-year-old Lochrane told the Daily Mail in an interview: "I thought that if Alesha was safe anywhere these days, it was on that island, miles from anywhere. But it seems to me now that nowhere in the world is safe anymore. I didn’t know much about Bute, or the people who live there, but after all that I’ve heard [at the murder trial] I certainly wouldn’t want to live somewhere like that."
