While we can't predict much about the upcoming season, series creator DJ Nash said in an earlier interview that tensions are going to run high this season

Come November 19 and ABC's hit family drama 'A Million Little Things' will return for its Season 3. It has been a rather long wait for the show's return since the pandemic had halted production. But now with only a month left for its third season, audiences are eager by the day to find out what happens next.

Season 2 of 'A Million Little Things' ended on a shocking note. Rome and Regina (Romany Malco and Christina Moses) are heartbroken as their much-anticipated adoption process fails, just as fans had predicted. Delilah (Stephanie Szostak) had finally started dating and introduces her kids to the new EMT boyfriend Miles (Parker Young). Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) said he wants to be friends with his ex Maggie (Allison Miller). And finally, Eddie (David Giuntoli) was hit by a car while talking on the phone with his wife Katherine (Grace Park).

While we can't predict much about the upcoming season, series creator DJ Nash said in an earlier interview that tensions are going to run high this season. "We pick up with Katherine on that call…the phone was knocked out of Eddie's hands and someone picks it up," he had said.

The new season also adds few characters to the existing cast and here's who think must return to the show.

Allison Miller as Maggie

(ABC)

At the end of Season 2, Maggie had left for a teaching fellowship at UK's Oxford University. Before she left, she decided to express her love for Gary. But being in a new relationship with Darcy (Floriana Lima) Gary tells her he only wants to remain friends. And so she leaves.

Many fans thought this was her exit from the show and were more than happy to see her leave. In Season 2, Maggie had become the most hated character on the show with a lot of the audience siding with Gary. But we are positive that she will return because there is a new cast member who is directly related to her. According to reports, Chris Geere is set to play a recurring role in the new season as Jamie, Maggie's roommate in Oxford. This easily means that Maggie will return.

Chandler Riggs as PJ

Rome and PJ (ABC)

Riggs had become a fan-favorite last season because of his honest demeanor and earnest character arc. But many viewers thought that his character was cut short after the big reveal that he was indeed not Jon's (Ron Livingston) son. While this makes for a logical conclusion to his arc, PJ had built other relationships on the show, such as with Rome, that were of great intrigue. Their friendship was a unique one that we would not mind seeing more of. Like Rome was there for PJ in the previous season when he needed him most, this time could be the other way around. Rome, after all, needs a support system after what he has been through.

Anna Akana as Dakota

(ABC)

In Season 2, Eddie was trying to get back on his feet by working as a music producer for Dakota. But it was an association he distanced himself from after he discovered that she was secretly doing cocaine. This discovery had also led to a major fight between them. But here's what we're thinking: Eddie is surely going to recover from this accident. In the bar that night, he was confronted with the vice that is addiction and took the right step back. Maybe this new insight could help him save Dakota. And maybe that is what he wants. After what happened at the lakehouse, Eddie evidently blames him for the loss of a life. Maybe he needs to invest himself in saving a life and Dakota could be it.

Marcia Gay Harden as Alice Mendez

(ABC)

In the previous season, Gary has a heartbreaking confrontation with his mother Alice (Marcia Gay Harden). And many had thought that this would be the end of their relationship. But we're (almost) certain that her character is due to return this season. Why? Because life imitates art.

Earlier this year, the Mexican-American actor had said that he was making a "deeply personal" decision to reclaim his birth name Rodriguez owing to the "strange relationship" he had had with his heritage. At the early age of 22, when he was reading for a role on 'Primal Fear', he recalled that the makers had issues with his Caucasian appearance contrasting with his last name. "They said, 'You might want to give some real consideration to changing your name,'" he recalled. And now, two decades later, the actor is reclaiming his name - "to be the best, most honest ally and amplifier that I can be for my own community and for my friends of color."

Creator Nash had said that Gary would be exploring his relationship with his heritage just like the actor. This could mean the return of his mother.

Romy Rosemont as Shelly

(ABC)

Granted Regina has a turbulent relationship with her mother. But it was Shelly who had remained practical about the cons of adoption (till the very last minute) and had even expressed it to her daughter. So when Eve (Ebboney Wilson) refused to go through with it, it might feel like a 'told you so' situation, but Regina might benefit from her presence in the latest season.

'A Million Little Things' returns on November 19, 2020, at 10:01 pm on ABC.
