Dramatic 'A Knight of Seven Kingdoms' Episode 2 trailer sees Dunk at odds with Prince Aerion
After a scintillating debut, 'A Knight of Seven Kingdoms' now promises more in Episode 2, 'Hard Salt Beef'. HBO Max and the official 'Game of Thrones' YouTube channel dropped the trailer for the next chapter, pitting Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire, Egg, against Prince Aerion. The clip opens with Dunk's flashbacks that show his hard upbringing, which fuels his determination to carve out a future of honor and pride.
The trailer sees the duo arrive near Ashford, with a major tournament becoming the focus of the story. Dunks approaches various lords, hoping to enter the competition. However, Egg urges him not to put his pride on the line. When House Targaryen arrives, Dunk takes a dangerous chance as he crosses paths with Prince Baelor.
The clip also sees Dunk's increasing tension with Prince Aerion. A key moment in the clip sees him protect a woman suffering at the hands of Aerion, setting off massive consequences. Later footage in the trailer sees an injured and battered Dunk hearing Egg's voice to not give up as he stands up, ready to fight in combat.
While there is no synopsis for the second episode, the logline for the series reads: "A century before the events of 'Game of Thrones,' two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
Earlier, 'GoT' creator R.R. Martin shared his two cents on the viral opening moments of the spinoff. The sequence shows Peter Claffey's Dunk defecating while the GoT theme plays, much to the fans' amusement. “Yeah, that was a bit of a surprise,” he told THR when talking about the season premiere. "Not to say that my characters don't take s---s, but I normally don't write about them at any length." He further added, "When I saw the rough cut, I wrote, ‘What is this? Where did this come from? I don’t know if we really need the s---.’ But [showrunner Ira Parker] liked it for whatever reason."
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 1, Episode 2 streams on January 25, 2026, from 10 pm ET/PT on HBO Max.
