‘61st Street’: 5 things you need to know about the AMC drama
An American legal drama about the corrupt Chicago criminal justice system’s targeting of a Black high school athlete as the main suspect in the death of a cop

Executive producer Michael B. Jordan and creator Peter Moffat explore the Chicago criminal justice system in an eight-episode drama featuring Courtney B. Vance and Aunjanue Ellis. Moffat is well-known to UK audiences through modern law and order sagas like North Square, Criminal Justice, and Silk. The show follows Moses Johnson (Tosin Cole), a promising high school athlete, who is swept up in the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system.
“Although it’s a show about a deep problem, which is the police, I think and hope that it’s also a show that shows a community in all its breadth and depth,” Moffat said during the panel discussion during the screening of the show’s first episode at the Logan Center for the Arts. “It’s a show about community spirit, a show about Black excellence, a show about joy, and a show about fear and anxiety and confusion.”  61st Street is in the rare position of having a second season greenlit before the first even premieres as AMC gave 61st Street a two-season order. That gives the show’s actors some room to spread out and really delve into their characters and stories.

Here’s what we know so far about the show.
