Kennedy Center Honors 2019: Sally Field is honored for her joyous and touching film roles for over five decades and fans say she deserves it

On Sunday night, she was one among the honorees who were honored during the 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors.

Sally Field who is a mother of three started her career in the 1960s by starring in the sitcom 'The Flying Nun'.

Sally is already a recipient of numerous awards which include two Academy Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, and she has been nominated for a Tony Award and two BAFTA Awards. And now, on Sunday night, December 15, she was one among the celebrity honorees at the 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors. 

According to  Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein, “The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates icons who, through their artistry, have left an indelible stamp on our collective cultural consciousness." LL Cool J was the host of the 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors. After iconic singer Linda Ronstadt, Sally Field was the second artist to be honored for her numerous roles, both joyous and touching, for over five decades.

Accepting the honor, Sally said, "When I think back on that day in 1964, when I started my career on a cold beach in Malibu, and fast forward to now, to here, 2019. I don't know how I got here, except by the seat of my pants. Thank you for this." 

Celebrating her honor, three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg shared that he was proud of "her determination to invest in a great character, her commitment to representing history, her respect for the truth, her honesty with me, and—of course—all of her god-given talent."

Taking to Twitter during the celebration of the 42nd Annual Kennedy Center Honors, fans shared that Sally deserved this award after all her impeccable roles in acting. "Sally Field, another amazing woman from my era! Wow, such an incredible actress! Kennedy Center honor well deserved!" a fan shared. 

Adding to that another said, "What an amazing and prolific career @sally_field has had - TV, film and stage. I can’t even begin to imagine all of the battles she’s fought in the industry for her success - such a well-deserved #KCHonors!" 

"@sally_field congrats on being honored. Well deserved!! A true actor, humanitarian, leader of excellence, beautiful woman with a beautiful soul. Kudos!!" a fan shared.  While another added, "Sally Field is truly Hollywood royalty with style and grace and million dollar smile! Glad she was honored tonight."
