The 2020 ESPYS was underway with possibly one of the best intros ever. Hosts Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, OL Reign wing and former Portland Pilot Megan Rapinoe and Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird gave a heartfelt inspiration wearing 'Black Lives Matter' shirts and paying a rich tribute to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. Following the electrifying, yet heartfelt intro, fans had mixed reactions.

"My mind is literally blown watching this #ESPYs intro," tweeted journalist Jemele Hill and that started an avalanche of tweets. "Possibly best intro they ever had," a fan wrote while another seconded: "In tears and only a sports bystander." Another fan said, "It was the best I have ever seen!" The compliments continued. "Gave me goosebumps," a fan tweeted. "America is equal for everyone and everyone is valued," a fan wrote.

"This one is near damn inspirational and I am glad the ESPYS is happening, even if it is virtual. I know it isn't much, but it sure is better than no sports content at all," a fan opined. In addition, the awards will also play a special tribute to late NBA legend Kobe Bryant who died in a tragic helicopter crash earlier this year. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the tribute to the late athlete. "Can't wait what else is in store," a fan wrote. "Kobe Bryant and more of him please," a fan wrote. "Will there be a special performance or something for Kobe? #BlackMamba," a fan asked ahead of the awards ceremony.

Talking about the ESPYS, Rob King, senior vice president and editor-at-large of ESPN content, in a statement said: "The ESPYS always have the distinct pleasure of recognizing moments of inspiration, but this year they serve the added purpose of creating a collective experience for fans and players alike who miss live sports." He added: "Part of the fun of The ESPYS is bringing together athletes from across a spectrum of sports and Sue, Megan and Russell represent a diverse lineup of teams. We're excited to see them bring their passion for hosting the show."

ESPY Awards is currently airing on ESPN.
