HOUSTON, TEXAS: A 12-year-old girl crashed her father's car into a man killing him and his dog after her father had let her get behind the wheel to practice.

The father, Tomas Mejia Tol, 42, from Houston Texas, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and endangering a child.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon, August 15, when Mejia Tol allegedly allowed his daughter to drive around the Beverly Hill apartment complex in Fountain view.

As reported by ABC 13, Enrique Vazquez, 47 had been walking his three dogs when he was struck by the black Ford Explorer.

The Houston police believe that the girl put too much pressure on the gas which resulted in it flying into Vazquez and then into a tree, KHOU11 reported.

The police have arrested Mejia Tol and also added that there was a 2-year-old child present in the vehicle who could have been very badly harmed.

The act was branded as extremely dangerous by officials.

Upon being questioned, Mejia had told authorities that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. However, his claims were refuted by witnesses and video footage.

The 12-year-old had allegedly confessed to the officers that Mejia had let her drive so that she could practice.

The daughter is currently at home with her family.

Harris County District Attorney's Office Sean Teare shared with KHOU, "Every time you turn the wheel, or you turn the key on a car, you are strapping on a deadly weapon."

He also urged people that young children should not be allowed to drive especially when there are residents and families nearby.

Vasquez's brother Fernando spoke to ABC and said that he believes that the fault and responsibility are on the father.

One neighbor shared that the police had given the girl a sobriety test and "did her like she was drunk. We were wondering why they would do that test on her if she's just like a teenager. "

Another neighbor added, "'I mean, for me, I would never allow my children behind the wheel of the car, especially not at that age. Very tragic for the gentleman and his dog to be hit and killed."
