LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: If you're seeking the next best true-crime series to binge-watch on Netflix, you've come to the perfect spot. A genuinely outstanding crime docuseries, such as 'Worst Roommate Ever', draws you in with an intriguing premise and then goes further and deeper into the case with each episode.

Check out our pick of the top true crime programs on Netflix below.

'Inventing Anna'

Anything produced by Shondaland is always certain to be entertaining, and the creator's account of scammer Anna Sorokin (also known as Anna Delvey) is no different. Each episode proudly proclaims that the plot is real, with the exception of a few entirely made-up scenes.

And, for the most part, the tale of Russian-born Anna, who pretended to be a German heiress and used her wealth to part with a dozen banks and upscale hotels, is intriguing enough to require little elaboration. Perfectly performed by Julie Garner, down to the last accent.

'Wild Wild Country'

'Wild Wild Country,' an official selection of the 2018 Sundance Festival, is a unique real crime series. The show centers on guru Osho, also known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, as he embarks on his own paradise with his hordes of devoted followers in the middle of the Oregon desert.

But when a dispute with the locals quickly turns into the nation's first bioterror strike, the gaps between the church and the state start to manifest. 'Wild Wild Country' was a gripping, mysterious, and immensely significant documentary series that captivated the public and reviewers alike upon its premiere, earning the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Documentary.

'Making a Murderer'

'Making a Murderer', a true-crime series that went viral, tells the tale of Steven Avery, a man who was falsely convicted of murder and served an 18-year jail sentence. After being freed, Steven tried to resume his quiet life, but his plans were derailed when he was arrested for murder once more, this time of Teresa Halbach, and put in jail alongside his nephew Brendan Dassey.

But this time, 'Making a Murderer' explores potential areas in which the legal system may have gone awry, leading to the two's continued incarceration even though the documentary implies they are both innocent. A real crime documentary that must be seen to be believed, 'Making a Murderer' is utterly captivating and immensely entertaining.

The show's one-sided narrative and masterful storytelling make it easy to forget it's not a work of fiction.

'The Keepers'

'The Keepers', which narrates the story of Sister Cathy Cesnik's disappearance, devolves rapidly into a mystery full of deceit and horrifying truth. The missing nun's attempts to expose a system of horrific sexual abuse at an all-girls high school raise the possibility that there was a conspiracy that could have cost her life.

What starts off as a standard true-crime show quickly devolves into an unsettling examination of some of the most heinous acts conceivable, and everyone in the audience is sure to become enraged by the powerful people's weaponized ignorance. One of the true crime documentaries available on Netflix is 'The Keepers'.

'The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez'

The terrifying tale of eight-year-old Gabriel Fernandez, who endured gruesome torture at the hands of his cruel parents, is told in this Netflix original series. 'The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez' is naturally, an extremely difficult watch, with the subject at its core providing for some of the most painful true crime viewing available today.

The documentary examines not just the family, but also the social system that failed the boy. That doesn't lessen its poignancy, though, because the documentary series serves as a beacon of hope, encouraging people in positions of authority to take action to prevent such tragedies from occurring, given the sobering fact that this is only one of many examples like it.

‘Worst Roommate Ever’ Season 2 will feature the account of convict Scott Edmund Pettigrew's roommate

At 11:39 pm on June 14, 2016, officers were summoned to Anita Mimie Cowen and Scott Edmund Pettigrew's house, where they discovered Anita floating in her backyard pool, lifeless. Paramedics were unable to resuscitate Anita, who died at 12:17 am on June 15, 2016.

Scott was arrested that day.

Two cops grabbed Anita from the pool and performed CPR, while another searched the house through two smashed French doors. The officers discovered a digital audio recorder on the floor beneath the kitchen table.

Someone had made a one-minute recording earlier that night. The audio tape was played in court at Scott's preliminary hearing.

Anita had obtained a restraining order against Scott less than a week before her death, claiming that she had had several disagreements with him since he moved in with her and his two dogs a few months before.

The 58-year-old Cathedral City man who fatally beat his landlord eight years ago was sentenced to 25 years to life in jail.
